Scheduled to begin delivries in October, Thales Computers has taken the wraps off a new family of conduction cooled ruggedized 3U CompactPCI embedded board computers, starting with the PowerEngineC7.
The PowerEngineC7 is designed to meet the most demanding requirements of compact, real-time systems for defense, aerospace, industrial, transportation and communications applications.
According to Alain Albarello, General Manager of Thales Computers, the PowerEngineC7 is designed around the PowerPC 750FX, a dual issue superscalar control processor, operating at 700 MHz. Included is a PMC expansion slot and a dual Ethernet 10/100 port. FLASH memory is allocated 64 MB for the systems and 128 MB for the user.
The 32 KB L1 cache has a 32-byte line, 8-way set associative instruction cache and a 32 KB 32-byte line, 8-way associative data cache. The 1 MB internal L2 cache has ECC clocked at processor frequency.
The board’s high-speed 256 MB DDR SDRAM with ECC supports code execution copied from FLASH memory. A predefined area of the memory is protected from the PCI and Ethernet accesses and allows the definition of a dedicated PPC communications area.
Available in October, pricing for the conduction-cooled PowerEngineC7 starts at $4,450 for a single quantity.
