Targeting high performance designs in military, medical imaging, ATE, test and measurement and data acquisition, Samplify today announced a proprietary compression algorithm and FPGA-based engine and companion signal analysis tool.
According to Al Wegener, Samplify founder and CTO, the Samplify compression engine is capable of data rates up to 1 mega-samples per second (Msps) in software, 250 Msps in FPGAs and 40 giga-samples per second (Gsps) in ASICs.
He said that Samplify's proprietary algorithms compress and decompress signals in real time from 2:1 to 8:1 compression with lossless, fixed-rate, and fixed-quality options.
Taking compression out of the domain of the microprocessor, Samplify's compression engine is optimized for sampled data, expanding compression past rates achievable using microprocessors. Samplify's ER compression algorithm, he said, taps into the region of equivalent results between lossless and fixed rate compression.
To support developers the company has developed its Samplify for Windows Signal Analysis Tool which is useable across a variety of compression modes, displays input and output file sizes, and compression results, including compression ratio, dynamic range, noise, and distortion.
The Samplify compression engine for FPGAs is priced at $25K, representing a license for one user and one company over a period of one year, plus royalty. Samplify for Windows is priced at $995 and is available for 30-day evaluation.
