Phoenix, Ariz. Housed in a Micro-8 package, the NCP1501 is a dual-mode PWM buck converter optimized for cell phone, and PDA designs. This converter sports four, digitally selectable, fixed-output voltages: 1.05, 1.35, 1.57, and 1.8 V. The chip will supply up to 300 mA current to the load to meet the requirements of most portable designs. In PWM mode, the device also accepts a synchronization clock signal between 500to 1000 kHz. An integrated slope compensation circuit, feedback circuit, and MOSFETs are also on board.
The buck converter operates over the 2.7- to 5.2-V range, thus allowing it to operate from a Li-ion battery or three-cell NiMH battery. The device also provides a shutdown pin. During shutdown, quiescent current is 0.2 μA.
