The X9530 laser-diode-bias controller incorporates all circuitry necessary to control the bias of a laser diode while allowing for compensation of temperature drift and laser-diode manufacturing variations. The device includes two integrated current source/sinks with software-programmable operation and an integrated temperature sensor with a range of -40 degrees C to 98 degrees C and 6-bit resolution. An external sensor can be supported for greater accuracy. User-programmable compensation lookup tables are included, along with 2 kbits of general-purpose E2PROM.
Targeting 10-Gbit-module applications, the X9530 also features an industry-standard two-wire digital serial interface and is compatible with both distributed-feedback and vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser diodes. Sampling now, the controller is priced at $4.70 in quantities of 10,000 in a TSSOP.
