MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. Synopsys Inc. on Wednesday (July 31) announced a new release of Physical Compiler, its flagship product for physical synthesis, and claimed it offers a twofold run-time speedup and an average 6 percent improvement in quality of results.
The results were reportedly achieved by improving the core algorithms used by Physical Compiler, which combines RTL synthesis with full placement. Synopsys has been promoting the combination of Physical Compiler with the Astro IC layout tool, acquired from Avanti Corp., as its future design flow of choice.
The new Physical Compiler release also comes with an improved graphical user interface that leads to faster run-times for operations such as design loading, congestion display, airline display and schematic display. The 2002.05 release is now available to all Synopsys customers.
