WAYNE, N.J. Juniper Networks and Ciena have landed a multi-year contract with the Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC), under which the two networking giants will provide equipment for the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency's Global Information GridBandwidth Expansion (GIG-BE) program.
GIG-BE is a switched optical network that will serve U.S. Defense Department users at 100 sites around the world. This network will deliver speeds of OC-192 or faster. SAIC is the prime contractor for the GIG-BE program.
Juniper will provide its M- and T-series IP/MPLS routing platforms to the system. Ciena, on the other hand, will deliver its CoreStream optical transport and switching platform to the program. Deployments of both systems are expected to occur in 2004.
