COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Lucent Technologies Inc. has received a one-year, fixed-price contract worth $4.6 million from the U.S. Army to supply its Metropolis Wavelength Services Manager and Metropolis DMX Access Multiplexer for a new communication network at Fort Drum, N.Y.
The contract also includes services and support from Lucent Worldwide Services.
Metropolis WSM is a dense-wave division multiplexing system. The combination of the two platforms allows a mix of data and TDM services over Sonet in a metropolitan-sized area. Fort Drum in upstate New York is the headquarters of the 10th Mountain Division.
The installation is part of the Army's Installation Information Infrastructure Modernization Program (I3MP) program to update voice and data services at Army bases around the world. While the contract is limited to Fort Drum, Lucent has worked with the Army for 11 years on I3MP, and announced $50 million in contracts in 2003 to provide network integration and services for Army sites in North America and Asia.
