Chandler, AZ--May 28, 1996--An 8-pin microcontrollerfamily with a RISC architecture has been announced by MicrochipTechnology Inc. (Chandler, AZ) Each device is one-time programmable and isavailable in either a PDIP or SOIC package. The family issuitable for applications where microcontroller performance hasnot been possible because of cost and space constraints. Thefirst two devices in this product family are the PIC12C508 andPIC12C509, which have, respectively, 512 and 1024 words ofprogram memory, and 25 and 41 bytes of user memory.
Both devices are capable of in-circuit serial programming, andhave an on-chip 4 MHz clock oscillator, 33 single-wordinstructions, 7 special-function hardware registers, a2-level hardware stack, an 8-bit real-time clock/counter with8-bit prescaler, and a watchdog timer. They operate at 2.5 to5.5V and draw less than 2mA at 5V.
Nine more devices are planned for addition to the familybefore the fall of 1997. Features for those devices includeserial I/O ports, on-chip sensors, reprogrammable flash memories,1.8V operation, and optional oscillator modes.
