Bedford, MA. -- May 21, 1996 -- An Internet ToolPak Release 2.0is a high-level toolset that enables developers to buildInternet-enabled Windows applications in Visual Basic 4.0. Ithas been announced by the Crescent Division of Progress SoftwareCorp. (Bedford, MA). It meets the needs of most VB developers buildingapplications in both 16- and 32-bit environments.
The package, which includes a set of 16 ActiveX controls and anInternet mail "Wizard," manages VB developers' Internet protocolneeds and enables them to create sophisticated applications witha minimum of coding. As an integrated suite of OLE controls, itensures compatibility between controls and the ability to buildsophisticated applications. It also includes demonstrations andsample programs.
New support tools in the package include MIME and UUEncode/Decodesupport, remote access services, a Telnet form, and high-levelmethods for FTP and mail. In addition to these new features, theproduct incorporates two Internet mail controls with whichdevelopers can build mail-enabled applications, and anewsgroup control to create "intelligent news reader"applications. There is also a file transfer protocol control anda client/server control.
