San Jose, CA--May 20, 1996--Built-in self-test technology is available for core-based ASIC designs with a "roadmap" announced by LV Software Inc. (San Jose, CA) under its trademark LogicVision. The roadmap addresses the special testing needs both of core developers and of designers who use cores in their system-on-a-chip layouts. The product reduces test development efforts and time to market, and offers higher quality and more complete testing.
Cores are pre-designed, reusable building blocks that implementcomplex functions in large systems, which with advanced processtechnologies can be built on single chips containing as many as5 million gates. They enable such systems to be built quicklyfor applictions in multimedia, communication, and consumerelectronics markets.
Core-based designs are often difficult to test. Testingrequires inclusion of test circuits in the finished design, whichmust not interfere with the design's ultimate use. Test circuits must be accessible from the chip's normalinput/output pins, and they must test the cores while the latteroperate at normal speeds.
