San Jose, CA--May 20, 1996--A collection of common,industry-standard megafunctions has been combined in a functionlibrary, the MegaCore, offered by Altera Corp. (San Jose, CA). These functions include pre-verified designs for suchbuilding blocks as microprocessors, microcontrollers, digitalsignal processing engines, first-in-first-out pipelines, andother memory functions, from Altera and from other companies inpartnership with Altera. They reduce the design task to that ofcreating the custom logic that surrounds standard functions.
Ordinarily, engineers would license these functions for routineuse, but they are available for evaluation without the formalityof a full license under the OpenCore program. For evaluationthey get a netlist that they can combine with their own designs, evaluate and simulate the combination, and determine that itworks. They do not get the full package, however, allowingdesign modifications, maintenance, and other support functions, until they purchase the full package.
The MegaCore library is priced at $7995, and is available now forbeta testing. Production release is scheduled for the thirdquarter of 1996.
