Palo Alto, CA--June 17, 1996--Immediate availability of anetwork and system management software line, called OpenView forWindows Professional, has been announced by Hewlett-Packard Co. (Palo Alto, CA).The product family simplifies the product structure for HPOpenView OEM and developer customers. The line consists of fiveofferings, a reduction from the existing line of 12 products forsimilar purposes. By reducing the number of versions itsupports, HP is trying to make future product releases moreconsistent and reliable.
HP OpenView consists of a broad portfolio of management productsfrom HP and its partners, and a complete set of services that aredesigned to help customers improve service and reduce operationscosts. The package offers users integrated network, system,application and database management.
The new product structure requires customers to migrate to the7.2c platform, which offers customers more reliable versions ofWinSNMP and the FTP stack (Version 2.01). Because this migrationwill require recompilation and retesting of some applications, HPis offering a 50 percent discount for HP Developer's Assist,which provides customers with unlimited phone support, freeupdates and new releases from the HP OpenView for WindowsProfessional family for a year. The discount is good throughOct. 1, 1996. HP will not support HP OpenView for Windowsproducts on platforms older than 7.2b as of Dec. 1, 1996.
