Fremont, CA--July 26, 1996--The Apex Data division of SMART Modular Technologies Inc. (Fremont, CA) announced upgrades to its line of PC Card modem products. These software upgrades increase the speed and connection rates of Apex Data's V.34 modems. Flash ROM software upgrades offering transmission speeds from 28.8 bps to 33.6 bps are available for the Apex Data Mobile Plus V.34 and ClipperCom International V.34 products shipped after January 1, 1996. The 33.6 bps Flash ROM upgrade offers complete interoperability with all other ITU compliant 33.6 bps modems, and enables connection and transmission rates up to 33.6 bps, as well as speeds up to 16 percent faster than 28.8 bps modems.
The upgrade for all Apex Data V.34 modems shipped after January 1, 1996 can be downloaded immediately, at no charge, through the Apex Data web page at http://www.apexdata.com and through the Apex Data BBS at (510) 249-1601. Beginning August 1, 1996, all Apex Data V.34 modem products shipped will include the flash ROM upgrade.

San Jose, CA--July 25, 1996--LG Semicon (San Jose, CA) has announced the promotion and transfer of its president, Yu Sig Kang, to the position of executive vice president of the parent company, LG Semicon Co. Ltd. (Seoul, Korea), effective August 1, 1996. In his new position, Kang will be responsible for the company's worldwide sales, marketing, and finance.
Kang will be replaced at LG Semicon America by Jae Hoon Bae, who will become president of LGSA effective on Aug. 1, 1996. With over fifteen years experience in sales, Bae comes to his new job from the parent company in Seoul where he most recently has served as director of sales. He also has had considerable sales experience previously working with the company's trading division in the United States.
