Mountain View, CA--August 26, 1996--General Instrument Corp. (Chicago, IL) has signed a multi-million dollar contract to implement Aspect Development Inc.'s (Mountain View, CA) Explore Component and Supplier Management (CSM) systems enterprise wide. The Aspect system will support more than 800 users at GI facilities worldwide and is expected to significantly reduce part costs and increase operational productivity through the reuse of existing components, suppliers and intellectual property across its seven business units. With the Explore CSM system, GI will implement global preferred part and supplier management to support corporate-wide time-to-volume and strategic sourcing initiatives.
Aspect and GI have worked in joint partnership to develop GI's Enterprise Data Management (EDM) architecture based on Aspect's EDM planning model, which defines data ownership and integration between the three core data management systems supporting today's design-through-manufacturing operations. The GI-Aspect agreement will integrate Aspect's Explore CSM with Oracle Manufacturing for ERP & Metaphase 2.0 for PDM.
The Explore CSM system will manage GI's component, library and supplier information, as well as automate many of the design-through-procurement processes associated with this data, such as preferred part and supplier management, new part requests and approvals, and part obsolescence. The Aspect solution will also include part list analysis tools to grade early part lists and BOMs for size, power, manufacturability, reliability, and procurability.
