Sunnyvale, CA--September 19, 1996--Avant! Corp. (Sunnyvale, CA) announced the availability of Star-R version 2.0, the full-chip Smart Extraction package for deep submicron IC designs.
Star-R version 2.0 extracts full-chip accurate parasitic information and signal delays to within five percent of actual chip implementation. Complex designs with more than 20 million transistors can be analyzed.
Star-R employs automatic Smart Extraction, a patent pending simulation-based extraction technology developed by Avant!. At various stages of a design process, a designer can specify a desired delay accuracy, and Smart Extraction automatically optimizes computer resource requirements while guaranteeing the accuracy. With Smart Extraction, the computer run-times are reduced by up to 10 times, and peak memory requirements are also reduced by up to 10 times when compared with full-chip extraction without Smart Extraction. Star-R also includes fast RC circuit reduction with accuracy control and asymptotic waveform evaluation (AWE)-based simulation for accurate interconnect delay calculations.
Star-R version 2.0 is fully integrated with Aquarius, Avant!'s all-path timing-driven layout system; and Hercules, Avant!'s flagship hierarchical physical verification system.
Full-chip parasitic extraction and delay calculations are done with simple push-button operations. The extracted parasitic and signal delay information is generated in industry standard formats, ready to be used by logic and timing simulators. Complex clock distribution networks and critical signals can be extracted and analyzed easily with Star-R's graphical analysis capabilities.
Star-R is also integrated with 3D field solver process simulation tools to automatically generate the capacitance models. Meta-Labs of Meta-Software provides the silicon characterization and model calibration service which match the extraction models with actual silicon processes. The Star-R delay calculation models can also be characterized by Master ToolBox, an automatic cell characterization and model generation system from Meta-Software for deep submicron libraries.
