Camarillo, CA--October 28, 1996--Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. (Camarillo, CA) announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the company's new Colorado Springs GaAs integrated circuit manufacturing facility and design center will occur Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996. The ceremony starts at 11 a.m. at 4323 Arrows West Dr., in Colorado Springs.
The new fab, estimated to cost $75 million, is expected to create approximately 140 new jobs for Colorado Springs, of which 100 will be in manufacturing and 40 in engineering. It will be the first six-inch GaAs VLSI production facility in the world.
The facility will be 100,000 square feet supporting six-inch wafer manufacturing and testing. The project will have two phases. The first phase will include a product design center and capabilities for R&D activities in addition to wafer fabrication. The second phase is intended for additional capacity when required.
