Irvine, CA--October 28, 1996--New Media (Irvine, CA) introduced LiveWire+, a PC Card Ethernet LAN adapter with full duplex architecture, adaptive self-tuning, and packet processing.
The introduction addresses the increasing need for portability and accessability, as users require a connection of their notebook computers to networks, desktops, portables, or other Ethernet-outfitted devices in order to share files, send e-mail, surf the Internet and Intranets, or share printers.
The LiveWire+ full duplex architecture empowers users to send and receive information simultaneously. Additionally, the card provides high performance networking capabilities, featuring data transfer rates up to 20 Mbits per second.
With packet processing, LiveWire+ is able to process packets of information as they are received, enabling faster transfer times. LiveWire+ incorporates Adaptive Self-Tuning technology which allows the PC card to automatically run self-tuning tests and examine the network's data patterns while being stored in the PC Card slot.
To get started, users need only run Auto-Install (which is included in the package), plug in the card, and start working. Auto-Install is the installation and configuration program which detects the computer and network hardware, analyzes the machine's PCMCIA software, loads all of the necessary driver software and application software under one compliant interface, and edits the appropriate system files.
Utilizing connectors for 10Base-T and 10Base2 configurations, the LiveWire+ is compatible with all major network operating systems including Novell NetWare, Microsoft Windows NT, Windows for Workgroups, Windows '95, Artisoft's LANtastic, Banyan Vines, and DEC Pathworks.
Additionally, the LiveWire+ comes with the company's suite of troubleshooting tools including Knowledge Bank, an organized information resource and database of technical information; CardSleuth, a general diagnostic utility program; Integrated Messaging, an interactive online error detection and troubleshooting program; and built-in remote diagnostic software.
The 10Base-T/2 combo LiveWire+ is currently shipping and available through a variety of retail outlets with a suggested retail price of $250. This offering is backed by a five-year warranty and is FCC Class B certified for home and office use. All New Media portable computing products, including the LiveWire+, are available through New Media's established partners including distributors, resellers, retailers, and catalogs.
