Anaheim, CA--October 21, 1996--S-MOS Systems Inc. (San Jose, CA) is expanding its product line of graphics ICs for hand-held devices with the ball grid array packaging version of its popular SED1560 series of the 3 V, single-chip LCD driver and controller.
The device has previously been available only in die form and TAB with a pad pitch of 100 m, making board assembly difficult. The BGA opption helps ease assembly by facilitating the use of standard solder-reflow equipment already in place in most assembly houses.
The BGA packaging option, along with the full integration of display memory, LCD driver, and controller functions, LCD contrast adjustment, and DC/DC converter on one chip will appeal to designers of pagers, cellular phones, hand-held terminals and games, calculators, electronic organizers, and GPS displays.
Other benefits include its ability to drive display sizes as large as 20 characters x 8 lines (102 x 65 pixels), 26 characters x 4 lines (134 x 33 pixels), or 30 characters x 2 lines (150 x 17 pixels), and its low-power consumption of 8 mA at 1 KHz for 6 V LCD.
Power supply requirements are as low as 2.4 V. Pricing is $10 in quantities of 10,000.
