Nashville, TN--December 13, 1996--ROHM (Antioch, TN) has lowered the cost of fiber transmission products by developing a mass produced molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) laser diode. The RLD-78MIT, RLD-78NIT, and the RLD-78PIT are used for short distance optical fiber communication links, especially the Fiber Channel and ATM standards.
The RLD Series laser diode offers high frequency relaxation oscillation between 1.8-3.5 GHz. This results in low modal noise reduction. Another feature is the small compact package with close tolerances. Only a single 5V power source is necessary to operate the RLD-78PIT andRLD-78NIT. Due to the MBE manufacturing process, the laser diode series has a lifetime greater than 100,000 hours at 40 degrees C and 3mW.
The price for RLD-78PIT is $9 each with an order of 1,000 pieces.
