Bellevue, WA--Jan. 27, 1997--Stephen Kangas, president of Exodus Technologies Inc. (Bellevue, WA), announced that the company will mark the first quarter of 1997 by releasing versions of its NTERPRISE Windows application server that are faster, compatible with more platforms, and compatible with JAVA.
In a "statement of direction" for 1997, Kangas said his company will begin shipping version 1.2 of NTERPRISE on Feb. 5, and that it expects to make generally available the market's first Windows application server for JAVA-enabled terminals and browsers.
Version 1.2 of NTERPRISE is the first and only Windows application server to run on Digital Equipment Corp.'s AlphaServer, currently the most powerful enterprise server on the market that supports Microsoft Windows NT, Kangas said. In addition, increased graphics display speed will allow NTERPRISE 1.2 to run faster than its predecessors, depending on which Windows application is being run. Because speed varies among applications and is therefore hard to quantify for all Windows applications servers, Kangas said his company may hire an independent laboratory to help set benchmarks for speed among Windows application servers.
Kangas said his company is also developing a version of NTERPRISE that is expected to be the first and only Windows application server that is compatible with JAVA. Any user on a network terminal or PC that has a JAVA interpreter or JAVA-enabled browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape will be able to access Windows applications with NTERPRISE.
