Fremont, CA--February 26, 1997--SMART Modular Technologies Inc. (Fremont, CA) announced the availability of its Host Signal Processing (HSP) V.34 Type II PC Card Data/Fax modem for use with Pentium-powered computers for OEM and system integrator customers.
SMART's HSP Card is designed to offer fast and reliable data/fax transmissions at speeds up to 33.6 Kbits per second by utilizing the spare processing cycles of the microprocessor found in Pentium-powered computers, enabling low-cost communications.
SMART's HSP PC Card modem features low-power consumption from the Pentium host and meets the increasing demand for speed which is required for multimedia applications, online services, and the Internet. It is compatible with most leading Pentium-powered computer models, data/fax communications packages, and operating systems.
SMART anticipates initial shipments of its HSP PC Card Data/Fax modem in March 1997 for $75 in OEM quantities exceeding 500.
SMART's HSP PC Card modem is thoroughly tested with various fax and communications packages and is CCITT Group III compatible so faxes can be sent directly from an application or scheduled at a later time. It operates under card-and-socket services including IBM's EasyPlay, SystemSoft's CardSoft, and others. The product's Advanced Error Correction with V.42 protocol facilitates safe and clear transmissions. Additionally, the product is Windows 95 compatible, features Plug & Play support, and complies with all PC card standards.
