Dallas, TX--February 25, 1997--Olicom Inc. (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Cisco Systems Inc. (San Jose, CA) announced an agreement to license Olicom's LAN Emulation software for use in Cisco Token-Ring switches. This agreement represents a key component in the two companies' continuing joint development of second generation, high-performance Token-Ring switches, which will include ATM uplink technology. Olicom's LAN Emulation software has been tested for interoperability with Cisco routers and switches, and fully supports Cisco's Simple Server Redundancy Protocol (SSRP) for backup of LANE services. In addition, Olicom currently participates in Cisco's ATM Associates program, ensuring that Olicom's ATM NICs are fully interoperable with Cisco networks.
The joint development agreement between Cisco and Olicom announced last year is progressing well, with the first products expected to ship in the second half of 1997. The two companies continue to expand their joint development and licensing agreements in order to provide comprehensive Token-Ring network solutions.
By integrating Olicom's LANE software and Cisco's IOS technologies, high-performance Token-Ring to ATM uplinks will be available in the same timeframe as the jointly developed switch.
