Washington D.C.--March 26, 1997--RadiSys Corp. (Hillsboro, OR) announced the SPIRIT-32 E88, a high-performance integrated I/O and digital signal processing (DSP) system, designed for embedded applications with low latency requirements and demanding control algorithms.
The SPIRIT-32 E88 is suited for a wide range of applications, including active process control and manufacturing automation systems.
The SPIRIT-32 E88 features eight channels of A/D simultaneously sampled at up to 20 kHz and eight channels of D/A, providing flexibility to support a variety of applications. The board is based on the Texas Instruments TMS320C32 floating point DSP processor, with 60 MFLOP peak processing power. Off of the main DSP memory bus is a zero wait-state SRAM (expandable to 512 kbytes), two on-chip memory banks of 256 words, an in-circuit modular port scan device (MPSD) emulation port for program debugging, and a flash PROM (4 Mbits) to hold program and data. Each A/D front-end channel offers a two-pole Butterworth anti-aliasing filter and a sample and hold. The D/A section offers 12-bit resolution and a 1-pole smoothing filter. A/D data is transferred to the DSP processor via DMA without intervention by the DSP processor. This unique design reduces the number of cycles required for data acquisition, thus maximizing the cycles available for processing.
The SPIRIT-32 E88 can be customized for specific OEM applications by adding modular I/O expansion daughter cards with expanded memory, additional processors, or custom I/O. The I/O expansion interface includes 32 data lines, 24 address lines, and all the necessary control signals for extending the DSP bus. In addition, a DSP serial bus enables data transfers at rates up to 8 Mbps.
The suite of development tools for the SPIRIT-32 E88 includes RadiSys' Brahma MPSD emulator/debugger, an RS232 library for PC or laptop access and FLASH reprogramming, and Texas Instruments' Optimizing C compiler/assembler/linker for the TMS320C32.
The SPIRIT-32 E88 is available immediately through RadiSys' direct and distribution sales channels. Suggested price for the SPIRIT-32 E88 with 128-kbyte SRAM is $1,295 for quantities of 100.
