Inferno Release 1.0, announced this month, is a real-time network operating system that provides a software infrastructure for businesses to create distributed network applications. The Inferno 1.0 operating system runs in 1 Mbyte of memory including the Styx communications protocol, the Limbo programming language, and the Dis "virtual machine."
With Inferno 1.0, applications run unchanged across any communications network or device. Networking and security protocols are built in the operating system. Applications and services developed from other programming languages, such as Java, C, and C++, are supported by Inferno 1.0.
