Cambridge, MA--March 24, 1997--IONA Technologies announced with International Systems Group a full integration between Orbix, a leading Object Request Broker, and MQSeries, a leading messaging oriented middleware product. The integration of Orbix and MQSeries brings the power and functionality of one of the world's leading middleware messaging solutions to the CORBA world. The integration is facilitated by a new developer's toolkit from IONA called the Integrated Messaging Agent (IMA), which enables the straightforward integration of diverse messaging middleware products with CORBA object technology. This technology enables the unification of a diverse set of messaging transports behind a single CORBA API. The integration with MQSeries using IMA, forms a key component of the second tier of IONA's messaging strategy. IONA also offers, with its OrbixTalk product, multicast and recently IIOP implementations of the CORBA event service.
IBM MQSeries enables application programs to communicate with each other using messages and queues. This form of communication is referred to as commercial messaging. It provides assured, once-only delivery of messages. Using MQSeries means that you can separate application programs, so that the program sending a message can continue processing without having to wait for a reply from the receiver. If the receiver, or the communication to it, is temporarily unavailable, the message will be forwarded at a later time.
The Orbix/MQSeries integration will enter its beta program on selected platforms in Q2. The technology will be on display at IBM's MQSeries Technical Conference in San Francisco in early April.
