Redmond, WA--March 24, 1997--Microsoft Corp. (Redmond, WA) announced new data showing that the Microsoft Windows NT Server network operating system outsold the Novell NetWare server operating system by far in 1996. Additional data shows overwhelming customer satisfaction with Windows NT Server version 4.0.
Sales of Windows NT Server continue to dramatically outpace NetWare 4.x sales. According to 1996 sales figures published by International Data Corp. (IDC), new sales of Windows NT Server grew by nearly 85 percent, outselling new units of NetWare 4.x by more than two times.
Growth of Windows NT Server is also fueled by strong customer satisfaction with Windows NT Server 4.0. According to a recent survey done by Attune Inc., an independent research firm, more than 97 percent of users of Windows NT Server 4.0 are satisfied with the overall functionality of the server operating system. In addition, more than 20 percent of customers of Windows NT Server 4.0 surveyed have upgraded from a competitive operating system, such as Novell NetWare and UNIX-based operating systems.
