Fremont, CA--March 24, 1997--GateField, a division of Zycad Corp. (Fremont, CA), announced a new ProASIC (Programmable ASIC) product generation with 50 percent more gates and a 20 percent speed improvement over its GF200F product. Designated the GF250F ProASIC family, the new product generation offers up to 150 programmable logic kgates. These gates may be configured as combinatorial logic and sequential elements (up to 18,000 flip-flops) or combined to form larger functions such as distributed memory and DSP (digital signal processing) cores. The speed improvement over the GF200F product enables an 8 by 8 pipelined multiplier to operate at 125 MHz.
The GF250F ProASIC products are engineered to work seamlessly in an ASIC users' design environment. Designers can create HDL code, commence with rapid prototyping and design validation using GateField ProASIC products, and then quickly migrate to a gate array by re-targeting the HDL to a vendor-specific library.
GateField's GF250F ProASICs provide ASIC system designers in computing, communications, and consumer applications a solution for rapid prototyping and fast time-to-market. Early applications for the GF250F ProASIC family include multimedia, wireless, networking, and embedded control designs.
Samples of the GF250F050 and GF250F100 ProASIC product family are available now, with production units available in June. GF250F150 samples are planned for third-quarter availability. Libraries are available for all family members. U.S. pricing for GateFields 50-kgate device, the GF250F050 ProASIC in a 208-pin MQUAD package, is $222 in quantities of 100. 1998 pricing for the same device is projected to be $84 for volumes of 5,000 units. CPGA and SBGA package options are also available.
