San Jose, CA--April 28, 1997--Simplex Solutions Inc. (San Jose, CA) announced Barometer, a complete software solution for validating full-chip interconnect capacitance models with silicon. Barometer is a push-button tool that generates and analyzes interconnect test structures in any process technology it is given for 3-D capacitance such as area, lateral, and fringing. Barometer compares the capacitance model of a full-chip extractor to a 3-D field solver and automatically produces reports to take the guess work out of capacitance modeling.
Barometer supports the automatic creation of capacitance models for Simplex' Fire & Ice, a commercially available 3-D full-chip extractor. Simplex also announced an OEM agreement with Random Logic Corp. to use QuickCAP as the 3-D field solver engine in Barometer.
Using Barometer and its test structures, a designer can complete the model generation process including a set of analysis reports in 48 hours or less. A graphical user interface guides the user through the process data entry. Barometer automatically creates the test structures in GDS II format and the Simplex interconnect capacitance model from the process data entered. Using menu buttons, the user performs the capacitance extraction and comparison, producing reports in postscript or Excel-compatible formats.
Barometer will be available from Simplex in the second quarter of 1997, priced at $50,000 on Unix workstations.
