Mountain View, CA--April 29, 1997--Sun Microsystems Inc. (Mountain View, CA) announced availability of new 4-Mbyte external cache 250-MHz UltraSPARC modules for its Ultra Enterprise 3000 through 6000 servers.
The new modules, combined with enhancements to the compilers, have helped boost compute performance by up to 45 percent, with database performance improving by 17 percent, over systems available this past January.
Sun's Ultra Enterprise servers running the Solaris operating environment offer performance scalability. The compute performance of a 30 processor system is 2630 SPECint_rate95 and 2580 SPECfp_rate95 delivering a scalability of 99.5 and 97 percent, respectively. The uniprocessor performances are 93.9 SPECint_rate95 and 135 SPECfp_rate95.
The new modules enabled Sun to produce another record-breaking database performance result for an SMP (symmetric multiprocessing) system, achieving a throughput rate of 23,143.65 at a price/performance of $118.13 per tpmC on the Transaction Processing Performance Council Benchmark C (TPC-C) using the Ultra Enterprise 6000 server.
