Tarrytown, NY--April 25, 1997--Hitachi America Ltd. (Tarrytown, NY) announced its expanded role as North America regional headquarters for Hitachi Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan). As part of its new responsibilities, Hitachi America will include oversight of a number of Hitachi Ltd. group companies in North America. The goal will be to foster closer ties between separate Hitachi entities, and create greater synergy of Hitachi's resources in North America.
The company will reorganize its semiconductor operations in the U.S. through a merger of its Semiconductor & IC sales division (Brisbane, CA) with its Hitachi Semiconductor (America) Inc. manufacturing subsidiary (Irving, TX).
The newly consolidated organization, which takes effect October 1, will be known as Hitachi Semiconductor (America) Inc. and have its headquarters in Irving, TX. The company will be headed by Kosei Nomiya as president and CEO of the new company, effective June 27, 1997.
The primary purpose of the consolidation is to fully link Hitachi's semiconductor business in North America into a single customer-focused organization. The merger consolidates Hitachi America's sales and marketing, and semiconductor manufacturing operations into a single entity.
