Fort Collins, CO--April 28, 1997--Symbios Logic (Fort Collins, CO) announced two new SCSI bus expander products, the SYM20101 SCSI Bus Repeater Board and the SYM20102 SCSI Bus Converter Board. The new board solutions provide an effective, non-intrusive way of managing bus loads while maintaining the integrity of the original SCSI subsystem design. Utilizing the Symbios Logic SYM53C120 SCSI Bus Expander device, both of these solutions provide electrical isolation between the two SCSI buses, allowing for increased device connectivity and greater cable distances.
Targeting server cluster configurations, the SCSI expander boards provide a low-risk method to expand storage by allowing the attachment of additional storage enclosures, such as JBOD (just a bunch of disks) and RAID boxes. The Symbios Logic solutions improve data reliability and fault tolerance as systems and subsystems are easily clustered for ultimate performance at an overall lower total solution cost.
The SYM20101 operates as a repeater in single-ended to single-ended bus environments and the SYM20102 operates as a converter when attaching a single-ended bus to a differential bus. Leveraging the Symbios Logic SYM53C120 chip technology, the board solutions couple servers together via a shared SCSI bus, allowing devices to share access to common disk storage. Both board solutions provide the capability to check SCSI signal tolerances as signals are received and, if necessary, realign them to SCSI specifications.
Requiring no software or SCSI ID, either board solution attaches directly to the SCSI bus. Target and initiator devices can be located on either the A bus or B bus. Supporting SCSI-1, SCSI-2 and SCSI-3 standards, the SCSI bus expander boards work with any of Symbios Logic's SCSI products. They also function with any other industry-standard SCSI controllers up to Wide Ultra SCSI with transfer rates of 40 MBps.
The SYM20101 repeater board, sized 3 x 4 in., is available for $104.80 is 1,000-unit volumes. The SYM20102 converter board, sized 4.5 x 4 in. is available for $189.70 in 1,000-unit volumes.
