Maynard, MA--April 22, 1997--Digital Equipment Corp. (Maynard, MA) announced the delivery of StorageWorks Fibre Channel RAID subsystems for engineering testing by key OEM customers. The new subsystem offers double the performance of Ultra SCSI technology, and supports up to 72 drives for more than 655 Gbytes of storage. OEMs will evaluate the units for use in such I/O-intensive applications as medical imaging, data warehousing, video, and multimedia.
Fibre channel provides high-speed data transport for mass storage and networking over long distances.
The new Fibre channel subsystem features one or two controllers with data rates of up to 100 Mbps for high-speed transfers. It offers high data availability with support for RAID levels 0, 1, 0+1, 3 , and 5; and multiple host ports--four per controller pair--for multi-platform support and multiple paths to all data.
The new units are scheduled for volume shipment later this year.
