Mountain View, CA--April 22, 1997--Aspect Development Inc. (Mountain View, CA) unveiled version 3.5 of its Explore software. The release raises the bar for CSM software with several important innovations, including Aspect Component Expert (ACE), a rules-based search capability that lets users quickly find functionally equivalent parts, and upgrades and downgrades; and Dashboard, an option that allows any user to perform sophisticated search, analysis, and reporting routines.
ACE opens new opportunities for vendor consolidation, volume buying, component obsolescence management, and cost cutting through weeding out redundant part numbers.
ACE searches both legacy databases and Aspect's VIP Reference Databases--comprehensive and current repositories of component information, containing data on nearly two million components from almost 700 vendors.
Ace is a complete software and data solution, and includes the underlying rules for equivalents, upgrades, and downgrades, based on best practices. These rules are included in the VIP Reference Databases, and are easily modified within Aspect Explore.
The enabling technology of ACE is the Dynamic Specification Envelope (DSE). Explore 3.x has always shipped with a variety of operators to specify parameter values and ranges for searching. The innovation in Explore 3.5 is that, with DSE, a tolerance can be specified by percentages rather than the user having to calculate and enter exact values for dozens of parameters. DSEs, based on best practices, ship with Aspect's VIP Reference Databases.
The new release also exports any data accessed through Explore to reporting packages that support OCBD drivers, which includes most report writers on the market, such as Actuate, Crystal Reports, Impromptu, Query, Report Ease Plus, R&R, and SQR.
Explore 3.5 is available now for both Explore software maintenance and new customers. Explore prices are based on configuration and number of users. The Dashboard interface is available separately as an option for 3.5 users.
