(Colorado Springs, CO) introduced VHDL Easy, a new synthesis product operating on Windows 95 and NT platforms that enables programmable logic designers to leverage the benefits of VHDL in their designs. VHDL Easy is a means for accessing the capabilities of VHDL and is priced at $495.
MINC's VHDL Easy consists of two distinct components, an interactive tutorial to help users learn VHDL, and a VHDL-based logic synthesizer for programmable logic devices. By simplifying the user interface and preprogramming the synthesizer for the most common user needs, VHDL Easy eliminates many of the obstacles in programmable logic design.
VHDL Easy links to a designer's existing programmable logic place-and-route or fitting software, and enhances that software by adding the benefits of high-level design with VHDL, powerful optimization, and efficient device-specific mapping. VHDL Easy allows designers to choose one of several different programmable logic device families from vendors such as Actel, Altera, AMD (now Vantis/AMD), Lattice, and Xilinx. Additional device libraries can be added as needed.
VHDL Easy accomplishes VHDL design by applying the same logic synthesis and optimization techniques used in workstation synthesis tools costing upwards of $20,000. Techniques such as macro inference and resource sharing ensure maximum device utilization. VHDL Easy uses optimization and mapping designed specifically for the selected device to minimize the amount of space needed in the final solution.
