Synopsys Staffs up to Deliver the Next 10X in Productivity for System-on-a-Chip Design
Mountain View, CA--May 23, 1997--Synopsys Inc. (Mountain View, CA) announced several key executive appointments and promotions in senior management, sales, marketing, and engineering.
Dr. Chi-Foon Chan has been named COO, Office of the President. As part of the Office of the President, Chan continues to share responsibility for running the company with Synopsys CEO Aart J. de Geus. Dr. de Geus is focused on driving the company's technology leadership through the business groups and strategic industry partnerships. Chan is focused on driving the company's internal operations and worldwide field organization (WWFO) to ensure customer success and satisfaction.
Synopsys has appointed key executives to lead sales for the Americas and services, Asia Pacific sales, and worldwide operations. The company also announced that Alain Labat, senior vice president of sales and marketing, is departing the company to take a position as executive vice president with Animation Science Corp., (Sunnyvale, CA). Until the end of the quarter, Labat will support Chan in his new role with the WWFO.
Bob Russo has been promoted to senior vice president of services, and sales for the Americas. Russo joined the company more than four years ago as vice president of sales for North America. During his tenure with the company, the North American region has grown from $92 million to over $300 million. Russo has more than 20 years of experience in sales, sales management, marketing, and support with electronic design automation, supercomputer, computer, and telecommunications companies. Prior to joining Synopsys, he held senior-level worldwide management positions in sales and marketing with Cray Research, Stardent Computers, and Votan.
Andy Huang has been promoted to vice president of sales for Asia Pacific. Prior to Synopsys' merger with EPIC Design Technology Inc., he served as EPIC's vice president of Asia sales and operations. Huang brings many years of experience in ASIC design, engineering management, and sales to Synopsys with Digital Equipment Corp., Raytheon, and Cadence Design Systems. Before joining EPIC, he served as senior manager for the structured custom IC group of Cadence Design Systems with responsibility for Asia channel sales for strategic accounts and technology partnership programs. He holds a BSEE from the Worcester Polytech Institute, a CSS in business administration from Harvard University, and an MS in electrical and computer engineering from Northeastern University.
In addition to regional appointments and promotions, Synopsys announced that Dick Allen has joined the company as vice president of operations for the worldwide field organization at company headquarters in Mountain View, CA. Allen brings more than 23 years of experience in sales operations, finance, and engineering with networking, computer peripherals, machine tools, and semiconductor companies. Most recently, he served as vice president of sales operations with UB Networks, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tandem Computers. During his 11-year tenure there, he also held various positions as worldwide sales and marketing controller, director of customer administration, corporate planning manager, and corporate controller of a joint venture between UB and General Electric, Industrial Networking Inc. Prior to that, he served in financial management positions with Qualogy and Intel Corp. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Lawrence Institute of Technology and an MBA in finance from the University of Michigan.
Synopsys' Senior Vice President Paul Lippe has assumed responsibility for the newly formed business and market development group, which will focus on overall corporate strategy and strategic marketing, business development, market communications, strategic relationships, and legal. Bob Dahlberg has been promoted to vice president of market development, reporting to Lippe. Dahlberg, who has been with Synopsys since 1988, brings to his new position more than 20 years of experience in marketing, marketing management, software engineering, services, and application engineering with semiconductor and EDA companies such as Intel and Daisy Systems Corp.
Dr. Antun Domic has been appointed vice president of engineering for Synopsys Design Tools Group (DTG), reporting directly to DTG General Manager Raul Camposano. Previously, Domic served as vice president of engineering with Cadence Design Systems, where he led R&D efforts in place and route, logic simulation, synthesis, and timing for over three years. Before that, he was with Digital Equipment Corp., where he spent seven years in various senior management positions in CAD development for microprocessor design. Domic holds a BSEE from the University of Chile and a Ph.D in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
