San Jose--June 24, 1997--Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (San Jose) announced a full suite of ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power management Interface) firmware solutions and development tools for PC manufacturers. The ACPI specification, developed by Intel, Microsoft, and Toshiba, gives the operating system of a PC the ability to monitor and control system configuration and power management. ACPI is a key element of Microsoft's OnNow Initiative for instantly accessible PC's and easier-to-use platforms. Phoenix is working closely with Microsoft and Intel to develop, test, and bring to market a complete suite of products that enable PC97/PC98, OnNow, and ACPI functionality in desktop, portable, and server computing environments.
The Phoenix ACPI suite includes new products such as LogoPlus ACPI BIOS, a new firmware foundation that enables the minimum system power management and configuration requirements for new PCs; Advanced ACPI BIOS, to enable full ACPI power management functions and Plug and Play capabilities; and the ACPI Architect, a proprietary utility to assist developers in creating ACPI Source Language (ASL) code. Phoenix's ACPI products are available for desktop, server, and notebook PC's and can be customized for particular OEM preferences.
