Irvine, Calif.--June 20, 1997--Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. (TAIS; Irvine, Calif.) announced the appointment of Atsutoshi Nishida as president, effective July 1, 1997.
Nishida will also become vice chairman of Toshiba America Inc., the holding company for Toshiba's operations in the U.S., and is expected to be elected vice president and director of Toshiba Corp. at the company's June 27 stockholders' meeting.
The company also announced that Masao Suga will assume the role of senior vice president of TAIS in charge of the Computer Systems Group, which comprises Computer Systems Engineering, Computer Systems Manufacturing, and the Computer Systems Division.
Nishida replaces Shunki Yatsunami who will become the general manager of the Document Processing Equipment Division at Toshiba Corp. in Japan. (During the past two years, while under the leadership of Yatsunami, TAIS' sales growth has doubled from $2 billion to $4 billion). Suga replaces Hisatsugu Nonaka who has been appointed senior manager of North America and Oceania Operations for the Personal Computer Division of Toshiba Corp.
Nishida was president of TAIS from April 1992 through June 1995 while the company solidified its leadership position in the portable computer market. Nishida is currently the general manager for Toshiba's Personal Computer Division in Japan, where he is responsible for directing Toshiba's worldwide personal computing business.
Reporting to Nishida, Suga will be responsible for all computer systems operations in the U.S. and Latin America, overseeing the three divisions that are responsible for manufacturing, engineering and sales, marketing, service, and support. Suga comes to TAIS from his post as senior manager of North America and Oceania Operations for Toshiba's Personal Computer Division.
