New York--Aug. 26, 1997--IGS Technologies Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.) announced the design-in of its multimedia accelerators into the just announced JavaEngine 1 reference design kits from Sun Microsystems (Mountain View, Calif.).
JavaEngine 1 is targeted at Enterprise NC and intranet applications.
The Multimedia chip from IGS is a high-performance multimedia accelerator which directly interfaces to microSPARC-IIep--the JavaEngine 1 CPU--through the PCI bus. The accelerator combines a 64 bit GUI Accelerator, 200 MHz RAMDAC, and dual clock. Support is provided for high resolution displays up to and beyond 1024 by 768, and color depths of 8, 16, and 24 bits. In addition, the chip supports video conferencing through its video capture port.
The JavaEngine 1 features a microSPARC-IIep, IGS Multimedia Accelerator, Ethernet LAN, audio, I/O chips. The microSPARC-IIep has a CPU speed of 100 MHz and features an integrated 32 bit PCI bus interface. With the IGS Multimedia Accelerator the JavaEngine 1 supports CRT resolutions up to 1024 by 768 by 256 colors. The reference board and design kit provides JavaOS and HotJava Web browser for the JavaEngine 1 using IGS drivers for video, graphics, and display.
The JavaEngine 1 reference board using IGS' chip is available from Sun and information regarding the JavaEngine 1 is posted at IGS and Sun's (partner's section) Web sites.
