Des Moines--Aug. 26, 1997--Microware Systems Corp. (Des Moines) announced two appointments to key management positions. Derek B. South will serve as vice president, North American Sales, and Neil K. Guy will serve as vice president of professional services. Both positions are effective immediately.
South brings more than 15 years of experience in software and related technologies to Microware. He recently served as president and co-founder of Automated Testing Solutions Inc. Prior to that, he was vice president of sales for AutoTester Inc. where he was responsible for worldwide sales operations. Additionally, he served as vice president of sales from 1983 to 1990 at Ready Systems Inc., a pioneering company in the embedded real-time business where he was responsible for leading a worldwide sales force of 60 people. Under his leadership at Ready Systems, annual sales grew from $4 million to $22 million. South received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia in 1975.
Guy brings nearly 15 years of business and technology consulting experience to Microware. His career has focused on the consumer products industry, consulting many Fortune 500 organizations in the area of system development and business strategy. Most recently, Guy served as vice president of business and systems development for Briggs Corp. He also served as director of information planning for Meredith Corp. where he was responsible for the development and implementation of information plans. Prior to Meredith, he served as a senior manager for Andersen Consulting. He received his master's in business administration from the University of Iowa in 1984.
As part of its strategy to strengthen its management team, the company also expects to announce a new vice president of marketing in the near future.
Additionally, the company accepted the resignation of Michael J. Burgher as chief technical officer and is actively searching for a replacement.
