Toronto--Aug. 21, 1997--GO DSP (Toronto) introduced the latest release of Code Composer, a fully integrated development environment. In addition to new features for communications and imaging applications, version 3.0 of Code Composer also includes support for Texas Instruments' latest DSP processor, the TMS320C6x. Code Composer provides a single unified environment from which designers can edit, build, debug and profile code, and manage projects.
Code Composer Version 3 runs on the MS-Windows 95 and NT host platforms and supports the 'C2xx, 'C3x, 'C4x, 'C5x, and 'C54x processors in addition to the 'C6x. Code Composer is available for $2,000 from GO DSP's Third Parties and worldwide distributors, TI's worldwide distribution network, or directly from GO DSP.
The new features in bersion 3 include additional integrated graphical signal analysis capabilities including eye and constellation diagrams, FFT waterfall, image displays and others that are well suited for communications, imaging, and other real-time applications; a Visual Project Manager that is integrated with the IDE's editor for fast manipulation of all project files including libraries and project customizations; multiple watch windows to view variables, structures, and expressions; and a new leading edge GUI with enhanced toolbars. These new features along with Code Composer's other integrated features help engineers develop more sophisticated, robust, and optimized code to fully exploit the resources of the 'C6x and other DSPs for maximum performance.
Similar to Visual C++, Code Composer is a fully integrated development environment (IDE) with DSP-specific functionality such as probe points to inject/extract data or signals via file I/O, multi-processor debugging, a C-interpretive scripting language for automated testing, and workspace customization. Nearly all of these capabilities are not available elsewhere.
Although the 'C6x can achieve up to 1600 MIPS, the effective MIPS figure depends on the level of instruction parallelism and the data throughput that can be achieved. This is determined by the software, which also determines the end product's specific features. The choice of DSP development tools therefore has a major impact on time-to-market, product reliability, quality and, ultimately, a product's success.
