Colorado Springs, Colo.--Sept. 22, 1997--Ramtron International Corp. (Colorado Springs) announced the availability of first commercial 16 kbit FRAM product samples produced at its foundry source, Rohm Company Ltd.
The 16 kbit FRAM is the first product in a family of low-density FRAM products that Rohm is scheduled to manufacture at its facility in Japan. Until now, Ramtron has been the sole manufacturer of low-density FRAM products which it has sold on a limited basis since 1992. The addition of new foundries is expected to increase Ramtron's ability to grow its FRAM product sales and expand the FRAM market as a whole.
The company has begun shipping the product samples to a select group of existing customers for application in utility meters, postal meters, and security systems. Ramtron expects to begin receiving volume quantities of the 16 kbit FRAM from Rohm's foundry during the first quarter of 1998.
