Wilsonville, Ore.--Oct. 30, 1997--Mentor Graphics Corporation, the leader in physical verification of integrated circuits(ICs), announced that Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (CSM) hasselected Mentor Graphics' Calibre physical verification tool for internaluse with its advanced deep-submicron IC technology. Calibre provides CSMtechnical staff and customers with highly accurate and consistent physicalverification of 0.35- and 0.25-(m ASICs and ICs destined for consumer, communications, and computer electronics products.
Beginning immediately, Mentor Graphics will supply Calibre to the CustomerEngineering Division at CSM. Calibre's design independence makes it aversatile tool for verifying designs from CSM's wide range of customers. Otherverification tools require time-consuming rule file changes for everydifferent design topology.
In July, several leading semiconductormanufacturers, including SGS-Thomson, Samsung, and Toshiba, licensed Calibre toverify 0.25-(m chips for consumer applications. Recently, HAL ComputerSystems, Inc., a Fujitsu company, used Calibre to verify a 17 milliontransistor design in 19 hours, and design implementation provider, AspecTechnology, adopted Calibre for its production flow.
According to Collett International, a design technology managementconsulting firm in San Jose, Calif., the bulk of all IC and ASIC designs willhave shifted to 0.35 (m by the end of 1997. Such density mandatesaccurate and fast physical verification and parasitic extraction technology toensure reliable chip fabrication and chip performance. Calibre's proprietaryHierarchical Injection and Selective Promotion algorithms allowoptimum performance in any design style or layout methodology.
