Wilsonville, Ore.--Oct. 27, 1997 -- Mentor Graphics introduced LMS-CIS Interface, a link between Mentor Graphics' LibraryManagement System (LMS) and the Component Information System (CIS) containedin the Explore Enterprise database from Aspect Development. The LMS-CISInterface will bridge the gap between the business side of the house and theEDA library, allowing designers to speed time-to-market by enabling them totrack both engineering and business information during the creation andmaintenance of libraries.
The LMS-CIS Interface will provide LMS users direct access to company-widebusiness information, such as purchasing, supplier, and manufacturing datastored in Explore Enterprise, as well as allowing them to exploit suchdatabase features as consistency checking and access control. Designers willbe able to store LMS catalogs in the Explore Enterprise CIS database, and alsoinstantiate parts from either the LMS Parts Selector or the Explore Enterpriseclient.
This announcement comes on the heels of another recent EDA libraryannouncement by Mentor Graphics and Aspect unveiling the integration of MentorGraphics' Parts SpeciaList list management tool with the decision supportsoftware and component reference databases from Aspect.
EDA part data from the LMS catalog is stored in an intuitive relationaldata model. Also, the LMS-CIS Interface allows released and/or developmentallibrary catalogs to be accessed either globally or in a site-specificenvironment. The LMS is a Mentor Graphics too that helps designers createparts that meet the requirements for all phases of a board design process.LMS consists of a Library Manager software module that provides a process andlibrary structure for systematically controlling the development, maintenance, and use of part descriptions and models; and a Library User software moduleused for part selection, updates, replacements, checks and board, and processtransitions. Aspect's Explore Enterprise enables the rapid searching, comparing, and selecting of components from Aspect's VIP Reference Databases, the industry's largest and most accurate repository of parts information with2.2 million records from more than 700 manufacturers.
LMS-CIS Interface is sold as a floating license in increments of five (for$30,000), ten (for $55,000), or twenty (for $100,000). It is available now inBeta
