Milpitas, Calif.--Oct. 22, 1997--LSI Logic introduced an evaluation chipand evaluation board to support the TinyRISC microprocessor family.Designated the EV4101/L9C099, the evaluation chip is a highlyintegrated MIPS16 ASE-compliant 32-bit microprocessor with a TR4101,TinyRISC CPU core and associated building blocks. The evaluation board, designated BDMR4101, is a highly integrated system solution forevaluating theEV4101 processor and for developing TR4101 software applications.
There are several major benefits for utilizing the evaluation board. Itallows the systems engineer to develop application software before or inparallel with system-on-a-chip designs. The evaluation board alsopermits thedesign engineer to evaluate the memory system design price/performancetradeoff by running an actual benchmark program. Additionally, itprovides acomplete environment for hardware and software development and debuggingalongwith a PC or UNIX host.
The evaluation chip is compatible with MIPS-I, MIPS-II, and MIPS16instruction set implementations. In addition to the TR4101microprocessorcore, the EV4101 includes an extended bus controller for 32-bit memoryinterface; basic bus interface unit and cache controller; a 16-Kbyte,two-wayset associative, direct-mapped instruction cache; 8-Kbyte data cache;memorymanagement unit; two 16-bit programmable timers; multiply-divide unit;SerialIC on-chip debug; a four-level write buffer; full- or half-speedbusclock options; as well as several other functions and features.
The BDMR4101 evaluation board includes the EV4101 evaluation chip, whichprovides a full-speed evaluation target. It also has 1-Mbyte on-boardSRAM;optional 4-Mbyte or 8-Mbyte plug-in DRAM module; 512-Kbytes of FlashEPROMexpandable to 2-Mbytes; SCN2681 dual asynchronous receiver/transmitter(DUART)with two RS-232C serial ports; DP83932B SONIC Ethernet controller withThickNet and ThinNet interfaces; SerialICE port to support EJTAGdebuggingfunctions, and a 96-pin AMP expansion connector for easy access to theevaluation board. The evaluation board also has support for 3.3-voltdevices.
BDMR4101 is available today at $4500. The EV4101 TinyRISC evaluationchipis available today for $15 in 200,000/year quantities.
