San Jose--Nov. 24, 1997--Cadence Design Systems Inc. (San Jose)and Ambit Design Systems Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.) announced a multi-yearbusiness and technology relationship aimed at closing the gap betweensynthesis and layout in deep-submicron IC design. Thisnon-exclusive agreement, which covers product and design services, establishesAmbit as a Platinum member in the Cadence ConnectionsTM third-party softwareprogram.
The two companies have created a strategic relationship that provides for:
- Joint product development
- Full access to Ambit software for Cadence's rapidly expanding professional services and outsourcing organizations
- A reseller agreement authorizing Cadence to offer atechnology upgrade program to the Ambit BuildGates product for currentusers of the Cadence Synergy synthesis tool.
As part of this agreement,Cadence will make a multi-million dollar purchase of the BuildGates toolover a period of several quarters to support the advanced ASIC synthesisrequirements of its more than 1,000 designers within the Cadence DesignFactory network.
Ambit and Cadence engineering organizations will jointly develop and pre-qualify seamless, timing-driven flowsfor deep submicron and custom IC design. The flows will integrate the AmbitBuildGates product for advanced synthesis with the Cadence Design Plannerenvironment; Silicon Ensemble DSM place and route system; Pearl timinganalyzer; and complete simulation product line (the Verilog-XL, NC-Verilog, Leapfrog VHDL, and Cobra simulators).
Plans include co-development of common data interchange formatsbetween Ambit's BuildGates and Cadence's physical design technologies, aswell as a comprehensive suite of standard interfaces such as the generalconstraint format (GCF), timing library format (TLF), physical design exchangeformat (PDEF), and standard parasitic exchange format (SPEF). Futuredevelopment efforts may include links to Cadence's datapath and system-leveldesign tools including behavioral synthesis.
