Westborough, Mass.--Nov. 19, 1997--American Superconductor Corp. (Westborough) announced that John B. Howe will join thecompany as director, Electric Industry Affairs. Howe, who was formerlychairman of the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU), will playa key role in helping to position AMSC's commercial products for use in theevolving electric power industry. Reporting directly to AMSC's Chairman andCEO, Greg Yurek, Howe will represent the company in industry and governmentalpolicy-setting forums on topics relating to deregulation of the electricutility industry.
Howe brings a wide range of experience in the energy industry to AMSC. Aschairman of the Massachusetts DPU, Howe spearheaded a nationally recognizedeffort to deregulate the state's electric utilities. Prior to the DPU, Howeserved as vice president, Regulatory and Government Affairs at U.S. GeneratingCompany.
Howe has been an active member of national and regional regulatory andpolicy bodies, holding leadership positions in the National Association ofRegulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC); New England Conference of PublicUtility Commissioners; Electric Generation Association Northeast Energy andCommerce Association; and the Governor's Task Force on Massachusetts ElectricUtility Market Reform.
