Wilsonville, Ore.--Nov. 17, 1997--Mentor Graphics' (Wilsonville) Inventra division announced Wireless and Cable SoftCores, a collection of industry-specific intellectual property cores enablingfaster system-on-chip designs in the competitive wireless, satellite, and cablemodem markets. Typical products that will incorporate Wireless and Cable SoftCores include cellular and wireless local loop base stations, satellitereceivers, pocket radios, pagers, wireless LANs, and cable modems.
The Wireless and Cable collection of cores offers a wide selection ofstandard digital communications transmitter and receiver functions, rangingfrom building blocks such as forward error correction (FEC), to a complete QAMor QPSK digital receiver. These functions can be configured for a broad rangeof commercial standards such as DVB, IESS, ITU-T, MCNS, DAVIC, CCSDS, IEEE, and others, as well as for custom applications via parameterization. Theparameterization features of these cores permit rapid generation ofapplication-specific cores with optimized architectures. The Wireless andCable Soft Cores enable companies to rapidly implement high-performanceapplication-specific standard parts (ASSPs) or embedded DSP software functionsin an ASIC design, increasing ASIC performance while reducing powerconsumption, cost, and size of end-products.
The cores' parameterization protects against the significant time and costof re-architecting a design late in the game due to changes in targettechnology or system-level specifications. It allows the designer to readjustcore parameters up to four times as system specifications change. Eachcustomized core and testbench is generated and verified within hours, allowingcompanies to make design changes within days of tape-out. The verified coreis then downloaded instantly via eParts, Inventra's electronic storefront.
The extensive Wireless and Cable Soft Cores collection complements the previously announced Telecom Soft Cores library with new cores for concatenated FEC coding, QAM/QPSK modulation, and QAM/QPSK demodulation. All of the Wireless and Cable Soft Cores come complete with Inventra's standarddeliverable set of bit-true behavioral simulation models, synthesizable RTLmodels, testbenches, synthesis scripts, and documentation. Additionally,specialized design services for the Wireless and Cable Soft Cores areavailable through Mentor Consulting, as they are for all Inventra products.
