Armonk, N.Y.--Dec. 18, 1997--Semiconductor Packaging MaterialsCo., Inc. announced that the board of directors authorized the companyto repurchase, from time to time, up to $2,000,000 of SEMX commonstock on the open market. Shares repurchased by the company underthe repurchase program will be held as Treasury shares and maybe reissued in the future or may be reissued pursuant to the company's stockoption programs. The company said that at this time, it believes that therepurchase of its shares represents significant economic value given thecurrent market value of its common shares.
