San Jose--Dec. 18, 1997--Bell Microproducts Inc. (San Jose) announced that its revenues for the fourth quarter ending December31, 1997 are expected to be between $140 million and $150 million,up from the $138 million reported in the third quarter. Earningsper share in the fourth quarter are expected to be below the $0.06reported in the third quarter of 1997.
The company said that fourth quarter revenues are expected to increase sequentially in each of its business segments: semiconductors, computer products, and contract manufacturing, although not to earlier anticipated levels. Recent announcements by several of the company's major suppliers of disk drives indicate that aggressive pricing for desktop hard drives has contributed to intense margin pressures and an over-supply of disk drives in the distribution channel.
Bell will announce complete fourth quarter and fiscal year 1997 financial results in early February 1998.
