Singapore and Milpitas, Calif.--Feb. 25, 1998--STATS (ST AssemblyTest Services) has announced the opening of its new, larger headquartersand production facility in the Yishun area of Singapore.
Sized at 500,000 square feet, the building consolidates all operations andadministrative functions and provides for significant capacity expansion tothe current wafer probe, assembly, and final test capability forsemiconductors. STATS is also embarking on a computer-integratedmanufacturing (CIM) system for the facility in 1998.
Approximately 100,000 square feet of clean-room environment is currentlydedicated to chip assembly, with a potential to handle 60 million units amonth at full capacity.
Part of the assembly area will be a Class 10K clean-room environment forfront-of-line devices, with the remaining area designated as a Class 100Karea for end-of-line products. The mean cycle time for assembly is fivedays.
Another 100,000 square feet is currently dedicated to the test and wafersort production areas, leadscan, and packing. The same amount of space,100,000 square feet, is used for solder plating, administration, and supportservices. The balance of space for expansion will be facilitized accordingto the projected growth needed to support customer requirements over thenext three-to-five years.
At full capacity, STATS now has the capability to test 80 million devicesper month and sort 80,000 6-inch-equivalent wafers per month.
